Here are some mistakes you might be making (and should be avoiding) in the shower.
1. Replacing Washcloths or Loofahs
They are both the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Washcloths should be washed after 3 or 4 uses, while poufs or loofahs should be replaced every 3 to 4 weeks.
2. Exfoliating Daily
While exfoliation removes buildup of dirt and oil, over scrubbing will lead to oilier skin that traps more bacteria and dirt. Do a gentle scrub weekly, at night.
3. Washing Hair Without Combing
Comb hair before showering to avoid breakage and tangles. Use a wide-tooth comb after adding conditioner to keep it smooth before rinsing.
4. Brushing Teeth While Showering
Multitasking will mean you are not giving full attention to toothbrushing.
5. Shaving Legs First
Wait at least 15 mins after a bath so hair becomes soft and follicles open up before shaving. Not shaving is better instead of shaving before a shower.
6. Daily Hair Washing
The more you wash, the oiler the hair gets because the scalp overcompensates. Do it every other day or third day instead.
7. Hot Showers
When the water is too hot, it can exacerbate certain skin problems like eczema and dry, itchy skin. Instead, shower with warm water.
8. Too Rough Towel Drying
This can ruin hair follicles and cause breakage and damage. It also becomes itchier and dryer. Instead, pat dry with the towel and stop wrapping the hair in a towel.
Making these mistakes in the shower can undo the cleaning and maintenance of your hair and skin.
